Macayo’s Mexican Restaurants are a bona fide heritage brand founded in Phoenix in 1946 by Woody Johnson. Across the generations Macayo's has grown to become indelibly woven into Arizona culture. For their 70th anniversary Macayo’s revamped their historic original Central Phoenix location, dubbing the new, smaller concept as Woody’s Macayo.

Nocturnal was engaged to collaborate on developing this new concept that would establish the brand’s footprint for the next 70 years. We drew heavily on the rich cultural history of the Valley – and Macayo's role in it – to create a nostalgic, retro-Americana aesthetic that is a blend of the best of the southwest and Mexico from the mid-20th century to today.
